Quadruple Nelson and the joke.

David Shepherd used to stand on one leg when ever the cricket score for a team or a player was at 111 or multiples there of. One of those superstitions, and like most the story was always a bit fanciful, no hard and fast facts but it made for a little bit of entertainment to see the umpire on one leg, I wonder if a batting team has thought we will play this out for a little while and see how long he can stand like this and not bother to get a run?

Anyway the stadium has now reached a capacity of 1,111 and yes I am fully aware not a multiple of 111 but you can see the similarities so lets run with it. It also gave me the opportunity to go back into my memories of cricket, so not all bad.

Now for the Joke.

GROUCHO (to woman seated next to him at an elegant dinner party): Would you sleep with me for ten million dollars?

WOMAN (giggles and responds): Oh, Groucho, of course I would.

GROUCHO; How about doing it for fifteen dollars?

WOMAN (indignant): Why, what do you think I am?

GROUCHO: That’s already been established. Now we’re just haggling about the price.

This is what is happening with the sale of #MyLegoStadium on ebay, Would someone pay £10,000, I doubt it, but if they did I would sell. We all have our price it is just the haggling, If someone can pay millions for a painted blue square canvass in the name of art, I am sure someone has 10 grand to give me for a collection of Lego bricks which I have built into a stadium.

I am actually awaiting an offer. It won't be the ten grand, but at least it will be the starting point as to where I can be indignant.

It started with a brick never thought it would come to this.

This is the brick Part no,2339

Maybe would help to know when I first got hold of this brick, but unfortunately my memory fails me.

Brick, Arch 1 x 5 x 4 - Continuous Bow

I then got to talk train stations with @studdersfield and that led me to find the front facade of Liverpool Lime Street

Now I know this first attempt leaves a lot to be desired, but it is where it all began, as the Carpenters would sing.

Which led to

and I thought that would make a great back to a stand

and although not complete, it certainly is getting to shape up well.

Close encounters of the £10k kind

Yesterday I had another splurge on Lego bricks, which means I have around 2,000 lego bricks coming from various orders. Arches to complete the facade of the new stands, filler bricks in blue, white for facing the standing areas and 95 tan base plates to help build the base for the executive boxes which is then roof to the boxes and base for the 2nd tier. I think I have broken well into the budget for this project.

But why this project? I have touched upon it before, I really do feel as though I am building something much like the mountain from close encounters.

I have in life gone with gut feeling, I have always lived as the happy idiot, simply falling feet first into each situation, not sure how I got there but only to find it was just the thing I needed. This is how I feel about building the Lego stadium, no real idea as to why I am doing it, but going with the flow. I am not spending money we don't have, as this is why I stopped in Lock down and not to say that Lego is like gold, but Lego does hold it's value, people always collect it, bricks do become rare. Although the bricks I am buying are mostly standard ones they are the filler that everyone needs. So if the time came to sell, I would get at a good proportion of the money spent, if not all of it back. You can't say that for a lot of things in life.

As you can see above, why not do a bit of self promotion whilst also buying that lottery ticket style chance of someone actually paying ten grand, to some folks, ten grand is pocket money on a night out, for me and my lass it would mean our lass could retire or at least cut down a lot of her hours.

In the stadiums current form it shouldn't even have a 13 million to one chance, but when I have circled the pitch, and have the first level complete, who knows. It only takes one person with nothing better to do with ten grand, and both of us are happy, they have a lego stadium, I have ten grand.

More than likely I will just end up with a very tanned face, but if you don't give it a go who knows.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Lego Brick

Two packages arrived today so it allowed for some tinkering, and I do like a good tinker. You can see in the first photo, I have replaced the seating with a standing section. The cost of 1x2 bricks and modified bar bricks were cheaper than a 2x2 seat. All things happen for a reason, and I quite like the result. Feel free to comment with you own thoughts on the design.

With the seats freed up, I could then go into tailoring the new stand to what I was looking for, one which included a dug out. I have since realised I need to put the 3x2 bricks the other way around to accommodate the technic chairs when I get them. But, all the same it is starting to take shape. With a concourse along the back, just need to gel the facade at the back with the seating and concourse, lets hope I am not a few bricks out in height.

You will notice further down, I have discovered Lego soldiers, so this will be a birthday present to myself when I find some for the right price.

Lego brick of the day (part no 4286) seems to just fit right for the edging of the walls around the dug out. and at 1p a brick will be my cheapest purchase yet.

It's a funny old world, but I don't hear anyone laughing.

The main reason I am building this Lego stadium is to keep my sanity. As the header suggests "It's a funny old world" But! I don't hear anyone laughing. For this very reason I do try to find folks who take you away from this world and who do their dioramas with Lego. A couple of good ones to follow on Twitter @fcbrickstand @bricktothepast

Now back to the update, no building in the past week, but I have ordered some new bricks.

More arches, not red as you see here but tan so that I can continue the arch theme which you can see in the photo below, Wanting to repeat this across three boards, see what the effect is like when built.

The second brick on order, is the modified bar, this is out of necessity

So the plan being on the two end terraces, is to remove the seats I have and replace them with the bar brick stood on a 2x1 brick, this is still half the price of buying the equivalent seat. Hopefully will get these this week, so I can get on with a bit of building, with results to follow.
